TUTORIAL: Illustrator and Photoshop bottle tutorial – Level 3 Graphics Year 2 – Unit 12 (UAL)
This tutorial “Illustrator and Photoshop” bottle tutorial has two steps, the first one will be to grasp the basic concept, and we are going to create a bottle and do some basic editing in Photoshop, the 2nd bottle will have more details and helps grasp just a few tools such as the different layer styles, the colour fill layer, etc…. This tutorial is good for students who don’t want to use 3d software to produce their product concept. But if you have decided to use 3d this tutorial is also good to help your with your Photoshop skills.
This above is the basic concept for creating a bottle in Photoshop and using Illustrator to create the shape. You can try more advanced techniques, Digital Painting, which is more complicated to do without and graphic tablet and pen (but not impossible if you don’t have any). If you want to experiment with digital painting to create your product there is a good site to visit for basic concept in digital painting http://www.floobynooby.com/ICG/artvalues.html. With new tools and functions in Photoshop you can also use the 3d tools also to create your bottle. There will be a tutorial at a later stage.
I have started again with another shape just to demonstrate how easy it is.
To create the back of the bottle with the text and product information, you just need to hide the logo layer and text and shape layer and create new layers for your information. Then duplicate the new document and delete hidden layers. Now remember the bottle/container is not finished so you will need to work out how to make the neck just using some the the principles above. You will also need to workout the lighting for your product.
OK! I think that now you have enough skills to make your own designs and think of an d advertising concept for your product. For the advertising you will need to thinks of how you are going to reach your audience, animation, film etc…. Look at the few links bellow for inspiration.
